Become a Success Coach

Targeted Coaching is the cornerstone of our work.

Project OneTen Success Coaches serve as personal champions for our students and support them during their critical transition to high school. Our coaches understand the systemic barriers that boys of color in Chicago face and they are committed to guiding their student as they navigate those challenges. These relationships, alongside our monthly programming, create safe spaces for students to reflect, stretch, and grow.

Success Coaches provide support for students both socially and emotionally. Our program centers this work in support of academic development and success.

Meet our Coaches:

Project OneTen Coaches are:

  • Social justice oriented: understand the systemic issues in education and social norms and their impact on boys of color, specifically for high school readiness.

  • Optimistic: maintain a student-centered approach to support and develop student self-advocacy.

  • Open-minded: are willing to expand perspective by leaning into curiosity to increase understanding and empathy (including vulnerability and creativity in relationship building).

  • Adaptable: can be flexible to changing demands and can navigate ambiguity.

  • Accountable: take ownership of commitments and promises with consistent follow through.

“Growing up, like many boys of color, I didn’t have a person I could call a mentor. Project OneTen is changing that for so many here in Chicago. I am happy to be a part of that mission.”

How We Support You As A Coach:

Training Sessions
Success Coaches attend training sessions led by our program staff and partners throughout the program year, preparing them with the tools and resources to best support students.

Research-based Curriculum
Project OneTen uses a research-based curriculum that centers relationship-building and goal-setting, supporting coaches and students throughout our program.

Supportive Community
Success Coaches are organized in pods to support peer learning, problem-solving, and accountability. This learning is just as impactful as our training sessions.
